Sydney Metropolitan Catchment Management Authority has merged with Hawkesbury-Nepean Catchment Management Authority

The NSW Government recently announced that the Sydney Metropolitan Catchment Management Authority has been merged with the Hawkesbury-Nepean Catchment Management Authority as part of the changes to the regional service delivery model. From January, 2014 Local Land Services, a new regionally-based organisation will replace the Catchment Management Authorities, Livestock, Health & Pest Authorities and incorporate agricultural services currently provided by Agriculture NSW.

The Hawkesbury-Nepean Catchment Management Authority's area of operation now includes all the areas previously covered by the Sydney Metropolitan Catchment Management Authority. World Wetlands Day occurs on 2 February of each year. It is an international event proclaimed by the United Nations to commemorate the signing of the international Ramsar Convention to protect and preserve wetlands around the world. To celebrate World Wetlands Day, WetlandCare Australia hold an annual Australia-wide art competition, offering categories for both children and adults.

2010 WetlandCare Australia National Art and Photography Competition Now Open For Entries

Entries are now being sought for the WetlandCare Australia National Art and Photography Competition 2010, being held to celebrate World Wetlands Day, 2nd February, 2010.

The competition has categories for children and adults in Art and Photography, including Junior and Senior categories in the Children?s Art sections.

Categories have been designed to give as many people as possible the opportunity to submit entries. 

The theme of the competition for 2010 is "Wetlands, Biodiversity and Climate Change", which is also the theme for World Wetlands Day 2010.

The winners of the competition will be notified on 18th December 2009, and then publicly announced on World Wetlands Day, 2nd February, 2010.

The competition is an excellent opportunity for all Australians to consider the importance of wetlands and what wetlands mean to them, in this time of water shortages, drought, and other impacts of climate change.

The closing date for competition entries is 4th December 2009.

2009 Competition

The theme for World Wetlands Day 2009 was ?Upstream-Downstream; wetlands connect us all? and this was also the theme for the WetlandCare Australia National Art Competition.

Winners were announced on World Wetlands Day at the Boondall Wetlands in Brisbane.

The winners of the Sydney Metropolitan Catchment Management Authority Open Art Prize were:


1st  Prize - Elizabeth Oldmeadow 'A delicate Balance'  2nd Prize - Kathryn Harrison 'Web of Life'   3rd Prize - Liz Jordan 'All in the Same Soup' Merit Award - Prue Sanchez 'Water Rat' Merit Award - Yvonne Ashby 'Our Heritage II'

2008 Competition 
The Sydney Metropolitan Catchment Management Authority proudly sponsored the major 'Open Art' category.

The theme for World Wetlands Day 2008 was ?Healthy Wetlands, Healthy People?  and this was the theme for the competition. 

The winners of the Sydney Metropolitan Catchment Management Authority Open Art Prize were:

More than 350 entries were received for the WetlandCare National Art Competition 2008, with a total of 38 winning entries. Entries were received from all over Australia , with the majority of entries from NSW and QLD.
