Sydney Metropolitan Catchment Management Authority has merged with Hawkesbury-Nepean Catchment Management Authority

The NSW Government recently announced that the Sydney Metropolitan Catchment Management Authority has been merged with the Hawkesbury-Nepean Catchment Management Authority as part of the changes to the regional service delivery model. From January, 2014 Local Land Services, a new regionally-based organisation will replace the Catchment Management Authorities, Livestock, Health & Pest Authorities and incorporate agricultural services currently provided by Agriculture NSW.

The Hawkesbury-Nepean Catchment Management Authority's area of operation now includes all the areas previously covered by the Sydney Metropolitan Catchment Management Authority. Applications are sought for appointment to the Sydney Metropolitan Catchment Management Authority Aboriginal Advisory Committee (SMCMA AAC).

The SMCMA geographical area extends from Turrimetta Head at North Narrabeen, west to Prospect Reservoir at Blacktown and south to Stanwell Tops.

The purpose of the SMCMA AAC is to assist the SMCMA Board to:  Identify relevant Aboriginal issues; Assist with the development of policy and strategic direction in relation to Aboriginal matters; Build relationships; Identify priority natural resource management actions; establish a pathway between the Aboriginal community and the Board.

Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate Aboriginality, and demonstrate one or more of the following attributes and/or areas of knowledge:

  • Aboriginal cultural heritage knowledge
  • Ability to network with a wide range of community groups
  • Knowledge of sustainable natural resource management
  • Communication/engagement and networking skills
  • Connection to the SMCMA catchment
  • Leadership and team work
  • Other desirable skills are listed on the application
