Sydney Metropolitan Catchment Management Authority has merged with Hawkesbury-Nepean Catchment Management Authority

The NSW Government recently announced that the Sydney Metropolitan Catchment Management Authority has been merged with the Hawkesbury-Nepean Catchment Management Authority as part of the changes to the regional service delivery model. From January, 2014 Local Land Services, a new regionally-based organisation will replace the Catchment Management Authorities, Livestock, Health & Pest Authorities and incorporate agricultural services currently provided by Agriculture NSW.

The Hawkesbury-Nepean Catchment Management Authority's area of operation now includes all the areas previously covered by the Sydney Metropolitan Catchment Management Authority. The SMCMA's Community Program facilitates a range of activities and helps give members of the community an opportunity to get involved in projects that can help improve their local environment.

Here are some ways that you can participate in to improve your local environment:

  • Join a Bushcare group or other volunteer program. To find out what's happening in your area, search our map.

This network has been formed to encourage on-ground environmental groups and interested community members to share ideas and knowledge, and discuss their experiences with others who are similarly involved.
